eSpeed vs HSDPA (Zoom! Or Go!) vs WAVE

Choosing the right broadband: eSpeed, Zoom or GO!

It could be difficult for a non technically inclined to decide on which broadband technology to pick. The choice currently available is between fixed broadband via ADSL (provided by TelBru eSpeed) or mobile broadband via 3.5G/HSDPA (by DST GO! and bmobile Zoom). 3.5G/HSDPA is wireless whereas ADSL uses fixed telephone line. To help make your decision, here are few pointers:

1. Connection Speed
ADSL – Unshared bandwidth up to 512kbps, 640 kbps, 768 kbps and 1 Mbps. Currently the network is upgraded to ADSL2+ which can offer up to 20Mbps.
3.5G/HSDPA – Shared bandwidth up to 7.2Mbps. Drop to lower rates if there are simultaneous access by many users in one cell.

2. Price
Take into account of the budget and how much you are willing to spend each month. Here’s your options:
eSpeed Unlimited - $68/month, $65 modem, router $80 - $150.
Zoom Unlimited - $60/month, $300 modem, router $600.
GO! Unlimited - $78/month, $300 modem, router $600.

3. Understand Your Needs
If you need to be mobile and use the internet while on the move using your laptop, 3.5G/HSDPA is the obvious choice. For example, if you want to be connected while you are outside your home or in your car, a mobile broadband would be ideal. But do take note of the coverage since some locations may not have the wireless signal coverage and may get affected by factors like distance from the transmitter and your modem as well as buildings.

If you require multiple users to access to the internet, for example, one family at a home wants to share the connection, ADSL would be the right preference. Technically, a wired solution is always reliable than the wireless options.

Also, look at the type of applications you will be running. If you need is a reasonable speed for browsing and downloading huge size of files, then you will need a faster connection.

Whatever your choice is, 3.5G/HSDPA serves a great way to compliment ADSL. You can have the benefits of both if you know what you will be using your broadband for:
- Home/Business fixed location user, pick eSpeed.
- Roaming user, then go for 3.5G/HSDPA.

Telephone wiring at home

To ensure that your broadband nsure that the telephone wiring inside the house is proper. Here are some steps you can take to remediate the problem:
•Reroute your wire
•Replace your internal wiring and
•Install new wire without splices*
*It is important to note that telephone equipments uses very low amounts of voltage and each time you splice, there is a possibility of it losing the low voltage
Alternatively, you may consult a technician from TelBru or an approved vendor to inspect the wiring inside the house.

How does internal wiring affect eSpeed?

eSpeed is provided through telephone lines going to the house. Most houses have one telephone line going inside the house from the distribution pole outside. It is then a common practice to have many parallel lines to accommodate practical usage of the telephones at home.
However, having too many parallel lines decrease the overall broadband bandwidth and affect the broadband connection. Common symptoms for this would be:

•Slow connection to the Internet
•Disconnected while browsing the Internet
•Other phone sets emits a loud buzzing noise when used

How to check your eSpeed Connection?

Go to www.brunet.bn and click on the 'Bandwidth Test' box and choose ADSL. Click here

How fast is eSpeed Connection?

The maximum speed offered by eSpeed is 1000kbps, which is really fast for every day usages. For example, to download a normal length song (4MB) will take about 35 seconds, or to download an average file of 1MB will take less than 10 seconds!

1 Byte = 8 bits
1 KB = 1024 bytes

e.g.
Your eSpeed 512k bits/s
512/8 = 64k bytes/s
therefore:
4MB file will take =
4000/64
= 62 sec (~ a minute)
